As it is often said, the quality of a team depends on how well the members work together to achieve a common goal. This is true even in fantasy football. Drafting the players is a very important part of the virtual team creation. Fantasy football picks are serious business to the millions of league and team owners.

How do team owners pick the best players for their team? Like in the real football teams, fantasy football teams also have a draft of players. There are two common types, the "serpentine" where team owners, in a specified order, pick their players through an auction using an imaginary budget, the owners bid for their choice players. Some owners complete their teams by getting free agents or by trading with the other team owners. 

Team owners may change the starting members depending on the ongoing performances in the real league and depending also on the rules of the virtual or fake league they are members.  However, a good team is still largely determined by the result of drafting day. Here are some reminders before D-Day ( Drafting Day )

1. Be prepared before D-Day
-Know the rules of the league you are a part of. Each league may have its own rules regarding drafting, scoring method and the payment of the prize money.  
-If you are a new owner, learn the language or terminology of the game. Glossaries are available online.
-Have a cheat sheet or other statistical data of the players past performances.
-Be updated with the latest news on the real football league.

2. Bring your tools and references.
- Have the money for any fees
- Paper, pens, highlighters to identify your picks, folders, and other tools to aid in the efficient pick of players

3. Pay attention to the strategies of the skilled owners and see if you can learn from them. Be careful not to divulge your plans and your statistical references.

4. Know the bye weeks of the players you're interested in so you don't draft those that will overlap.

5. Think about trading in order to get the players that you want but were picked before it was your turn. Analyze your team players for any deficiencies and correct them before the draft is finished.

6. Have your roster cleared with the commissioner. Exchange contact information with the other owners.

Picking the right players is the key to winning the fantasy league, so do the best you can. But don't forget the fun part because it is just a fantasy game.
